So we all know that Prosper202 does an awesome job at providing free affiliate tracking.
But if you could build your own tracking system, the perfect tracking system, what would it include? What would it do? I want to hear your thoughts on this. A few points that I’d include :
- First thing is connecting with the Adwords/Yahoo/whatever API so we can do lots of things.
- Grab the real cost data (I know P202 is working on this).
- Automatically detect click fraud and block the IPs.
- Edit PPC campaigns from the program and post the changes without going into Adwords.
- The usual graphs and whatnot.
Those are just a few things off the top of my head, I’m curious as to what you guys would include/deem necessary.

Custom bidding rules. So you implement a rule and it automatically updates your bid on each keyword continuously in real time. This would be especially useful for cpv.

I always think of stuff and now I’m drawing a blank…I’ll have to come back to this.

you look gay.

A tracking system that does not allow for split testing on several levels like ad copy, landing page, and offer would be pretty much worthless to any one who cares about testing.
I would also add in historical bid tracking so I can see what my bid was at various positions over time to see what placements provided the best cost vs volume.

It has to be super easy to install, use, and implement.

Provide global post back URL integration with the networks so that I can run any offer anytime without needing to wait for pixels to be placed.
also, would be able to run any type of traffic, ppc, organic, image ads, ppv, etc…see the different metrics on how they are used (ie CPM, CPC, EPV, etc).
I know the Prosper202 guys are hard at work on alot of this, so in due time it will come.

There are plenty of second generation search tools that will blow away the first gen stuff, as well as all of the items listed here in comments. The real question is how much budget are you willing to dedicate in order to get that functionality?
November 21st, 2008 at 4:18 am
The tool should include video tutorials to insure that the users got the most benefit from it.

all of your suggestions are good. but i would really want a tracking system that gives actual suggestions on bid prices etc.
you know that commercial for etrade where the guy from law and order shows how the system gives suggestions…THATS what i want!

Google Analytics with defined goals can offer additional analytics information.
November 24th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
Any system that completely automates bidding based on profitability and integrates with the AdWords API would be ideal. Luckily, such a thing is on the way ;)

Automatic double scrubbing of affiliate links, cookies and keywords so ZERO traffic data is sent to the network.
December 1st, 2008 at 3:25 pm
How do you do automatic double scrubbing of affiliate links?
December 4th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
Not sure exactly what he’s talking about but you could get a couple ideas at http://www.slightlyshadyseo.com/index.php/controlling-your-referer-and-hiding-your-traffic-sources/
December 7th, 2008 at 7:13 am
That would be pretty awesome.
November 24th, 2008 at 6:35 pm
Email alerts when certain keywords/ads fail to meet set criteria. Or simply be able to pull them up instantly in the interface.
If you have a huge keyword set you’re bidding on it would be nice to know what keywords didn’t convert after say, 300 clicks, etc.

Automatically tracks competing ads on for your keywords (like hexatrack or ppc bully) along with everything else.
Be able to create alerts for ads that stay around for x amount of days, etc.

Paul nice way of getting free ideas from public. this post was obvious that you trying to brainstorm ideas for the “new” tracking (or should I say your tracking system). good one!
November 28th, 2008 at 8:36 am
I think its a pretty good post :)
November 25th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Built in offer rotation would be nice.
November 26th, 2008 at 10:27 am
i like the bit where he talks about affliate marketing
November 26th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
“Grab the real cost data (I know P202 is working on this).” – this would be the most important factor for me.
November 28th, 2008 at 8:37 am
ASW 09 will be done
November 30th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
Great idea! This would be very helpful.
November 28th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Ye, i use Prosper202. I prefer the hosted version so much more!
November 29th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
I think the biggest thing would be that it would have to work all the time and would be something that I would trust. I was using Prosper 202 recently and I think something was wrong with my install because as soon as I started using it, the few campaigns I had live all stopped making money. I removed my tracked links and I am back up to where I was before.
I am new to PPC as I am sure you know from TAC Paul, so knowing your tracking system is working all the time, every time is important.

[...] Uber Affiliate, or Paul, is the guy that helped out Collin Lahay on TAC to have a $1600.00 dollar posting for one day during the competition. Well, what most of you don’t know, that $1600.00 that was made, was over only one hour of a campaign being live. Paul’s blog, like the other affiliate marketing blogs only has jut over 4000 readers. Paul, also gives some great tips and has some great industry related conversations. Check out Paul’s blog here. [...]

I think its a pretty good post too
November 30th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
There are some great ideas so far. I am happy with google analytics though so I do not think I will be changing anytime soon.
November 30th, 2008 at 11:28 pm
Awesome Blog….!
December 1st, 2008 at 2:39 am
Well, i really didn’t know about Prosper202. I am very satisfied with Google Analytics, but will have to look over Prosper.
December 1st, 2008 at 9:04 am
Prosper202, never heard of this program.

I think PPC coachs tracker is better.
December 2nd, 2008 at 12:41 pm
video tutorials will be highly recommended,. One thing i like about it. Its free
December 6th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
Editing automatically without going into Adwords would be “WOW” :)
December 7th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
Great post, nice points you got there. I think people should find out the secrets to affiliate marketing more than wining around that they aren`t making any money.
There are some loop holes in the search engines.. some techniques that can generate thousands of monthly hits and obviously conversions.. :)
Good luck everyone :)
December 7th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
That would be pretty awesome.
December 9th, 2008 at 1:24 am
that’s really great and hope will be helpful for me ~thank you
December 10th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
If this software can block ip address, does it include dynamic ip address?
December 18th, 2008 at 11:46 pm
Thanks for the idea
December 20th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
Great post.

I have got some instructive ideas from your experience. Never late to be improved.
December 31st, 2008 at 2:47 am
Your reason is that the stuff should be helpful. I dare say you achieved the set goal.
January 22nd, 2009 at 11:35 am
Great Post.
Never knew you could do this.
February 10th, 2009 at 12:35 pm
What would be good for me is making it even easier/faster to set up tracking. If I create 50 landing pages I have to go through 3 pages of settings for each one on P202.
