Use Twitter to Make Money

A few days ago I talked a little bit about Twitter, and told you guys to add me. I just kind of talked about how social networking related to blogging interested me, and that I was going to start using Twitter to connect with people.

Well, the more I’ve started using it, the more I realized how it can be beneficial to your affiliate marketing business. Twitter is a great tool to network and just chat with other affiliates. I used to just “tweet” random things and then move on with my day, and then I download the application Twhirl. Twhirl is basically a little instant message screen that shows all the action going on in Twitter. This kind of put me in instant message mode, and now that’s kind of how I use it. If someone says something interesting, I’ll reply to them and ask them something back. Or I’ll ask people questions and just start talking with them. Just yesterday I think it was I made a tweet saying “I need help real fast with a design problem, hit me up on AIM – uberaff”. Within a minute I had like 5 IMs with people willing to help.

So how does this related to affiliate marketing? While talking about lifting weights and Rickrolls won’t help me make more money that second, it does build relationships with other people in my industry. If I chat enough with certain people, I’ll start to feel like I know them. This can lead to just IMing eachother in private and talking about affiliate marketing. Potentially then we can help eachother make some more money. Everyone (including me) always talks about how networking in affiliate marketing is key…well this is actually a great way to network.

So no matter how gay you think it is, join Twitter, download Twhirl, and add me.

Your post the other day finally spurred me to go ahead and give Twitter another try. I’m finally starting to see how useful it can be!

To those who don’t get it, I would strongly advise to give it another try. Just make sure to build a following, because it’s no fun tweeting to yourself!

    Twhirl i doesn’t know it

Have you used “Twitterrific” before? Pretty similar to “twhirl”, but at the same time pretty different. I actually download twhirl because of this blog post just to check it out and so far it seems pretty cool! Only thing I still like better about Twitterrific is that you can hide the dock icon and show a menu bar icon instead… which I think is way better.

Yeah I’ve used both and I like Twhirl more.

So how do I “add” you uberaffiliate? Twhirl keeps asking for the email address of a contact to add.

Thats cool, long as you add me too twitter.com/steelydaniel. I prefer to use it from the cell phone instead of thwirl—the only thing twitter needs to add is the ability to receive @ messages from anyone without opting in to mobile updates from that person. Then I’d never check the website.

I finally took the plunge with Twitter yesterday and am just trying to get into the groove of Twittering lol. I’m following you at the moment and now will probs have to give Twhirl a twhirl to see if it’s any good or not!

Using twitter as a networking tool. Genius. This should help me a bit, since I suck at networking and making connections.

Twitter is hard at first, because you really just don’t get it or see its usefulness, and when you got nobody following you it’s pointless to send updates. But it’s all networking and anyone jumping into this online money making thing, needs to get on with this.

you should install a plugin on your blog so when you post something it will send an update to your twitter account. I use one called Twitter Tools. That’s pretty cool and it let your followers know when there is something new on your blog instead of randomly checking it out.

great post – sums up some ideas I’ve shared when trying to convince people to use Twitter. I’ve been able to connect with some of the top web people in various corners just through this little tool. It makes communication so much more personable and less awkward. for example, I could send fan mail to Michael Arrington, but it’s unlikely I will get any in-depth email response from him. But If I send tid bits here and there to @techcrunch over a period of time, Arrington will get to know me. This raises my relevance to him and makes for a more likely a future meaningful conversation with him.

Thanks, this looks like a good idea. I am on a lot of social networking sites already though and I may forget my username or password.

Networking is key. Getting decent to high ranked and respected sites to talk about, or even link to you, will ease people to trusting you. They may say, well he is friends with Paul at Uber Affiliate, so he must be trustworthy and legit.

Twitter, as with all Social Media, is great for networking – by building these relationships, you get the industry contacts you need to make money and get help. Twitter is a great help for this as it is so much quicker than many of the others

I have been inactive at Twitter for months. This post makes me realize what I have lost and motivates me to be active again. Thanks for the info!

Cool article…and thanks for the tip on Twhirl…but I just know it could get really distracting using it!! Just a couple of people on skype are annoying enough…

    Cheers, Stuart Stirling

Thanks for the tips…and letting me know about Twhirl…but I can see how that could get really distracting. Basic IM’ing gets my hands full enough…but twitter is different because the posts aren’t directly aimed at you everytime..so you canjust reply or comment on ones you want.

Nice blog too! I’ve joined your mybloglog community..

    Later,
    Stuart Stirling

Really nice presentation about Twitter for business. Twitter is unique platform to promote brand and increase reach. But, what about “Business from Twitter?”

I have used twitter to make money time and time again and have never made a cent so these days I’m a little reluctant to believe it is even possible. In my opinion twitter is only good for connecting with your clients/prospects building that relationship and trust but not to directly make sales from. I even tried a thing called the twitter method with no luck – maybe its just me though…
