The Evolution of My Blog

I’m debating a few things in regards to my blogging, and to settle the debate there’s no better place to turn to than my readers.

This blog started all about affiliate marketing, and is still pretty much all about affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is my baby, and will probably represent the largest percentage of my income for a long time. Other ways of making money online interest me as well…including things like development and blogging.

So my question to you guys is : would you like to see posts about other ways of making money online, or making money in general?

Let’s take blogging for example. My goal with blogging was not to make money, just to establish connections and build a readership/help people. But as the traffic grew, I realized it was just stupid to not monetize it. So making money with blogging has started to become a hobby, although I still don’t really try to monetize it hardcore. Point of this being, I’ve learned quite a bit about blogging over the past 6 months or so, and could probably give some helpful tips on the topic. I’m happy with the growth of traffic and loyalty of my readers in this blog, and it’d be cool to help other people do the same (and make some money doing it).

That’s basically it. I have other things I want to do as well and would talk about them here, such as developing my own offers, starting offline businesses, and investing in real estate. I’ll slap a poll on here to get a general idea, but don’t be shy; drop some comments and let me know what you want to see.

    Sorry but this is pointless.
Don’t exaggerate, you can’t be a guru about sth. what you don’t know about.
You should talk about what you know.
If you don’t know about real estate investment please don’t try to teach us about it for example…

if you should happen to make $1,000,000/day selling self-made-juice on the street why should someone not want to know about it?

I think you’ve developed quite a brand name for yourself. Your readers aren’t necessarily here just for the affiliate marketing info but to keep up with YOU as well. Looks like you’ve got some fans here…

Because of that, it’d be good to go into other areas of making money online while focusing on affiliate marketing.

Since there are about 3 million blogs about how to make money on a blog(thank you John Chow) maybe you could avoid that topic but it would be great if you talked about other ways you make money.

  5. April 19, 2008

Keep it strictly affiliate marketing. That’s one of the reasons I come here daily, because as an affiliate marketer myself I need pure aff blogs also. Don’t become another john chow. There are so many other people who cover this already, dosh dosh, yaro starak etc, but not many who do hard core affiliate stuff. In my opinion that’s your greatest strength, don’t dilute it. That’s my humble 2 cents.

  6. April 19, 2008

I wouldn’t be trying to be any guru. Blogging so far is the only other real thing I’ve been really successful doing.

If I was going to post about real estate, it would just be what I’m learning, and if I went at it any mistakes I made. Not teaching you how to flip houses for millions lol.

yeah, talk about whatever you like, real estate is a interesting stuff too :)

  8. April 19, 2008

Write about whatever you want. If you find it interesting enough to write about it, it will probably be interesting enough to read. If not, I can just mark it as read and move on.

  9. April 19, 2008

I voted for 100% focused, authority affiliate marketing blog.

I’d also like to see it stick to straight affiliate marketing. The affiliate marketing stuff you’ve put up here is great, and it’s what makes THIS blog unique from so many others. The moment that you start to branch out into general “money-making” is the moment that your blog starts to become diluted. I’d still visit either way, because I know you’ll have good stuff to read, but I personally would rather see you stick to affiliate marketing.

  11. April 20, 2008

Affiliate marketing only. Agreed with the others that you will be unique.

I just had 4 shots of patrone and I still come back to this blog. Stay with aff marketing.

There are way too many ” I Make Money Blogging by Telling how how I make money blogging” blogs out there. Do things outside of affiliate marketing if it fits, but don’t be like those other guys. And frankly, IMHO most successful blogs ( I mean real ones not the Make Money Blogging category) and websites are driven by natural search. And IIRC you dont know much about it. There are plenty of blogs out there covering the generic “make money blogging” with all the social tactics and a few good ones that focus on SEO and other things. Affiliate is what you do. I am sure that your entire blog income is fueled by your success with affiliate marketing. If you werent the “uber affiliate” no one would care about your blog.

Write about what you’re interested in. If that is more than just affiliate marketing, DO IT. The people who are here specifically for affiliate marketing are not going to leave just because you have more knowledge than just affiliate marketing. What do you think they’d say.

“I’m not coming to Paul’s site anymore, he is trying to help way too many people get rich from the internet and that decreases MY chances of becoming rich! I’ll go somewhere where the webmaster is only helping ME and no one else!”

I’m not even interested in doing affiliate marketing but the advice here is useful for all the other ways of making money online too

  14. April 20, 2008

    Well,

It’s your blog man. There are 1000000s of blogs about AM, blogging, Investments, Forex, etc… You’ll agree with me that most of your posts aren’t different than other posts on other AM blogs.

People come to read here because of you, and especially because of your STORY. So feel free to write about whatever is up to your mind.

    Just my 2 cents.

    April 20, 2008

Stay with doing AM only. There are way too many blogs on blogging already.

  16. April 20, 2008

I’d say keep this one affiliate based only :) Develop another site for making money in general :)

  17. Hello
    April 20, 2008

You have a great blog here man, keep it up – posts about making money in general are always welcome, as is general affiliate lifestyle stuff – just dont start doing posts about food pls?! ;)

  18. April 20, 2008

I voted for 100% aff marketing. Like everyone else that would prefer to see aff marketing only, there are too many generalized make money sites.

  19. April 20, 2008

Judging by the comments greater AM 100% than general money making techniques. vs. the online poll.

Just don’t talk about blogging or make money blogging. Anything else is great. But there’s 10 millions blogs about blogging and blogging for money.

I totally agree with Sitedesigner because you could just build a blog network and tie them together. Niche blogging in my opinion is the future in blogging. You have already conquered a niche so I would recommend starting a blog in another niche and focus on that area. I am sure some of your readers are interested in more than one area as well and they would probably help catapult a new blog from the start. This would also increase your readership over your network which would give you a better monetization strategy because you would have a network of blogs and the combined traffic could be a benefit financially. Opinions are like a**holes, everybody’s got one. In the end, do whatever you feel is good for you. You already have an money making strategy. Make sure to stick to your bread and butter and don’t get caught up in the hype.

  23. April 20, 2008

Hey man, it doesn’t matter whether you write about aff. marketing or stocks, I just like your style and posts with humor. Just one thing, really avoid talking about making money from blogging ;)

    April 20, 2008

Focus is the key, I have to remind myself that all the time when doing affiliate marketing as there are just so many opportunities out there I come across daily that grab me and I get the urge to stop what i am working on and jump on them.

So yeah don’t lose your focus, this blog is good because it sticks to the topic of affiliate marketing and only affiliate marketing. That’s what sets it apart from other crappy ones who post about everything from how much they paid to park their car to what they eat for dinner at which restaurants. Don’t lose this blogs niche focus…

  25. April 20, 2008

Dude, It’s your blog. Write about whatever you want. Regardless, people are still going to visit.

I voted for “Talk about more ways”

  26. April 20, 2008

keep it focus unless you are out of ammo.

  27. April 20, 2008

If it makes money, why not talk about it? :)

  28. April 20, 2008

i would talk about more cool stuff thatis related to am for example how to create meth i use that all the time

  29. April 20, 2008

I personally think that expanding is always a great way to succeed in more ways then 1. You can talk about so many different money making topics from an affiliate marketer’s perspective.

  30. April 20, 2008

Keep it about affiliate marketing unless you’re running out of things to talk about. That’s why I come here, and there’s already a gazillion other MMO blogs out there.

  31. April 20, 2008

    bread and butter.

  32. April 20, 2008

I’m all about hearing the offline stuff, IF… it has to do with scaling out affiliate or online ventures. We all (should) know that most of the customers are still offline for most markets. I don’t think I’ve seen an affiliate marketer talk about this stuff in great depth but I know quite a few are doing print, radio and even TV – see those white-labels all the time.

I would not want to hear about real estate or any “diversification” ideas unless you’re near the same level as you are w/ affiliate marketing. There are other blogs with some great experts in those ares.

  33. April 20, 2008

So why can’t you start one up and make money from it?

  34. April 20, 2008

Stick to what you know. If I want blogging tips I’ll go to a blogging site. I come here for the affiliate tips.

  35. April 20, 2008

    same here!!!

  36. April 21, 2008

I say no. Don’t stray from AM. Teach us everything you can, and keep this blog AM related. If you want to start a “make money online” blog, start a new/different one and cross post or reference it on occasion, but don’t ruin this blog. They are different crowds of people.

    April 21, 2008

i think blogging about other ways to make money online is a great idea… because there is simply only so much you can give away to readers without being either repetitive or revealing all your secrets that would hurt your business to give away. It would also be good to include other articles and links in your posts so we can form our own opinions and add to the discussion as well.

  38. Kris10
    April 21, 2008

maybe keep it an affiliate marketing focused blog, but add a one-day-a-week open discussion about other money-making topics. I think that would please everyone.

  39. April 21, 2008

keep it original man, don’t turn into a john chow and shoemoney with guest bloggers all over your site with misc ways to make money. Stick to AM, I love reading your stuff, but if you sell out like they have, then I will have no choice but to stop reading and referencing your material.

  40. April 22, 2008

YYYOOOOO!!!! Honestly, I wouldn’t mind seeing other ways of making money online, I mean, I make money online but I never put all my eggs in one basket, you know? But I just don’t want it to be the same crap every other blog is talking about… so I guess it’s a tough choice, but talking strictly about AM has done a lot for you and you can’t please everyone, right?

Whatever you do man, I’m sure people will deal with it one way or another.

Late to the party, but definitely focusing on affiliate marketing and related areas is the way to go imo. It is your expertise, and branching out too much dilutes that. If I want to read about the stock market, or real estate, I’ll read a blog about that. I read your blog for affiliate marketing info and for interesting personal posts as well.
