Add me on SphinnAfter seeing Shoemoney’s post a while ago, I decided to get a Visa Black Card for the hell of it. Came home from a movie last night and saw this on my doorstep :
Pretty neat. Centurion card members can maybe post what holiday type gift they received from Amex (if any).
As far as the card goes itself, yeah it’s the poor man’s Centurion. Membership fees are $500/year (same as Amex Platinum), and the worst part is…the card is plastic. Point/cash-back wise, it’s no different than any other card really. Benefit wise, so far it doesn’t seem to really compare to the Amex.
A lot of times when I’m out at stores and use it, the cashier asks “Is this a real black card?” Unfortunately I always respond “Nope, this is the Visa version.”
All in all Visa thanks for the gift and all, but I will probably be canceling the card before the next membership charge.

Wow that is a ridiculous annual fee. It’s funny what they try to charge for so called exclusive cards. I guess some people are just willing to pay it for an apparent status symbol.

The Ray Bans are nice & definitely sweetens the deal a bit, however the $500 annual card charge is quite steep, and one has to wonder if it is actually worth it. Now what if you cancel the card after a couple of months? Are you liable for the entire annual fee, or a pro-rata amount? And then the million dollar question is – Do you get to keep the sunglasses?

Totally Surprising gift of Ray-Bans from visa no doubt such stylish spect obvious expensive, looks as well cool. we can understand you obvious going to cancel this cards.

I have both the centurion and visa black-card — and I gott’a say … the visa sends me way more gifts. I got that same package (raybans with letter) a month ago, a really nice personalized cross pen, and a few other little gifts (free night at wynn/encore standard room in vegas) from the visa-blackcard.
The centurion card I have is the business one. The only thing they have ever sent me in the past two years is 3 free nights at Encore Vegas in a penthouse. I heard that those with the “personal” centurion get more gifts though. It’s good for showing off and stuff. But, visa has sent me plenty to make up for the annual fee and centurion has not.

Well of course they can give out Ray Bans, because they charge such high annual fees..enjoy the glasses and cancel the card….

I don’t think I would ever apply for a credit card with such high fees. Sure it is impressive to flash around, but its benefits pretty much end there. That is why they need to bribe their members with gifts like this.

I wouldn’t mind paying a lot for a REAL black card, it would match with my black BMW.
