Top Affiliate Challenge : Are You Ready?

Just saw this posted about over at Shoemoney, there’s a new Apprentice-style affiliate marketing reality TV show called Top Affiliate Challenge. It was created by Thor Shrock, who placed third in The Next Internet Millionaire. What’s going to happen is 12 contestants will be split up into teams and led by 3 affiliate gurus through various challenges. Eventually only one will be the victor in the end. If you want to enter, you’ll audition and fans will pick who moves on to actually be on the show. It is going to be a live show and will be filmed in Nebraska I believe. All expenses are covered for the contestants which is pretty cool.

So my question to you is : are you going to audition? Should I audition myself? I think it’d be really fun…just being on TV would be cool. It’ll be neat to see what sort of challenges they come up with, along with how the teams decide to solve/complete them. If you’re interested at all, here are some of the important dates about the challenge :

March – Auditions Begin
June – Contestants Selected
July – Filming and First Episode Airs

Since the show is filmed and aired in the same month, I don’t think it’s all pre-recorded. Should make for an interesting show, especially for us in the industry. Next month auditions start (not sure how they’ll be done, maybe a video or something), so start preparing what you’re going to say.

    Hey Paul,
I think you have a good video presence, and plus people are just starting to get to know who you are and the kind of money you make so you definitely have an edge there. I say go for it. I’d vote for you. I’m pretty sure auditions are done by video.

This will be fun to watch. I wonder how much will be shown vs. hidden from the viewers. Also what affiliate programs will be used from where. It is going to be fun to see how this unfolds.

HA! Looks pretty cool. It seems like every single “niche” of a TV show is starting to head in the American Idol direction, soon you will see “Americas next Porn star” or “Who can jump rope with the most style, you vote america!”. These shows are kinda getting old, I guess its neat tho.

It really a great thing. Looking over TV in a reality show, will definitely make someone hero, who has the potential. Please go for the auditions, otherwise you will repent that the time has gone. Best of luck.

Seems like a waste of time for you. If you are already making the kind of money that you posted on S.eriosly why bother?

Thanks for the post! Auditions will be a video submission, similar to TNIM. A few changes tho… Contestants submit their audition to our website rather than YouTube and contestants can change their audition any time they want.

The challenges will come from the affiliate network(s) that sponsor the show for the most part.

Feel free to post questions here or in the forum if you have more.

Last week I met with Thor and learned a lot more about it. Paul you have the ideas of the show correct, I’m giving a little more detail here.

    – IMO Paul you should contact Thor and be one of the 3 coach’s that coach’s the teams. Especially if you think you can pass along some great information.

    – “All expenses” yes he’s working on details, I do know the city is going to be VERY helpful with hotel rooms and such, he’s trying to get a LOT of good sponsors so that phrase can be used. Let’s not count the cash you’ll want to spend to go party :)

    – Video auditions will be done. They will have a voting for contestants. You can pimp yourself anyway you want to get on the show.

    – Not pre-recorded is correct. It’s going to be a virtual 24hr. turn around. They’ll film most of the day for whatever they need and the show will air the next day. The shows will be 15-20 min. unlike nextinternetmillionaire where they lost viewers by waiting so long to air 45min+ shows.

Can’t think of anything else, but I enjoy reading your blog and I know you get exposure here so wanted to help put some more information into your post.

    GL Everyone

    I’ll be auditioning too.

Paul blow it up, you might as well go, I’m sure you’ll get alot of votes and make some serious moves, knock em dead!

Just my $.02 about why I would never do anything like this…

What do you really stand to gain? If your goal is to be famous within the internet community then do it. If that is your goal, then I would reassess your goals.

If your goal is to make money, then this will just take 30-60 days of your time and use it to make someone else money.

Internet marketing is hit and miss, but 99% of the people dont understand that, if you go on the show as a contestant or guide and dont hit a homerun, then your brand will be damaged.

If you go on the show and share all your best tips, guess what, you just created 1000 little Paul’s running around doing the same things you are and competing with you.

I just dont see an upside here… Probably wont watch, certainly wont participate.

Why in the Hell would you want to do that?
With your success, you surly do not need our opinion
about joining something like that. For that matter why would anyone esle join such a thing. What a total waste of time. Your blog, yes , find, but if this will be you standard post subject, then I got other things to do.
No I am not successful with my AM yet. But Damn it.
    Get real.

It definitely sounds like a decent idea. If you think you have what it takes to win it, then go for it all. If you won’t give it your all, then don’t even try. You should only do it if you want/think/know you can win. If not, you could probably make a lot more in 1-2+ months doing your own stuff than doing that.

  19. February 4, 2008

    This should be really interesting…

I dont have time to be on a show though. ;)

I thought Paul would join the guru panel as Uberaffiliate. LOL?

  21. February 4, 2008

Lame show idea. It’s just a giant plug for Thor and Jeremy’s businesses. It’s about promoting them, nothing to do with learning about being an affiliate.

The Next Internet Millionaire was a total joke and waste of viewing time. Nothing to learn be entering or watching.

  22. February 5, 2008

Sounds interesting! You might want to audition yourself. You can do it! Ill be one of those wholl be at your back. ;)

Normally I would let a comment like this go, but this is important to me. This show is not “Thor’s Top Affiliate Challenge”

I am not hosting the show and I will not appear on camera as a component of the show.

More than anyone, I understand that for this to work the show has to be as pure as possible. Of course, we will have some ads because people don’t work for free – even on a project like this.

But we will not have a big DVD set at the end, we are not building a mailing list to hit people up later for unrelated things, and people like Shoemoney of Paul actually risk as much as they stand to gain by participating. There can only be one winner and one winning guru.
