Myspace Spammer Nailed

(25) Comments... Have Your Say! ~ May 15th, 2008

Check it out.

Dude got nailed for $230 million for phishing Myspace accounts and selling things like ringtones.

The last paragraph mentions Scott Richter (owner of CPA Empire) as also being on the list to get hit, we’ll see what happens with that.

If only people were happy enough with the amount of money you can make without spamming :).

Funny thing is I actually thought about doing this awhile ago LOL. But seriously, $230 mil is a little greedy, dude was bound to get caught at some point.

Crazy…

It didn’t say how much he was making through it? How much do you think he was making through all that?

Scott Richter, owner of CPA Empire ?

“MySpace has another anti-spam case pending against a high-profile defendant, Scott Richter, who it claims gained access to MySpace profiles using stolen passwords and then sent spam bulletins from those accounts.”

Oh my…

First time commentor, but what shocked me the most is that the second guy in the article, the one who was hit up for over 150 of the 230 million and is not pictured, lives not even 10 miles from my parents!

the bigger questions is even though guy had to pay 230 mil… how much did he make… I would be willing to say it was much more… but i could be wrong… Not saying i advise spamming… but sad part is that most spammers know they may get caught and make sure they earn more than what the settlement could be…

There’s no way he made 230mill spamming 730,000 users in myspace. Even if he had a $20 CPA and 100% conversions, that would be 14.6mill. I wouldn’t bet against him making a few million however, that’s now sitting safely in offshore accounts.

This is why everyone should just stay away from spamming! Even some MMO blog owners spam people. I have been to sites, and read articles, on how to turn your e-mail feed readers and newsletter subscribers into profits for you. Basically you get a collection of email addresses from people that has signed up for various things on your site, then set up an automated email system to email affiliate deals and such to them. I personally think that is crap. They didn’t sign up to get your affiliate links, they signed up for your feed or newsletter. I believe that practices like that will actually deter people away from your site. Suits him well. All spammers should be fined. It is just bad business, not true marketing.

Hmm glad he got caught but in a way im not so happy cause its going to bring the economy down if there is no spamers then there is no use to pay for antispam filters then a company like mcafee or avg will go out buisness people will lose jobs spammers make the world go round

Then why don’t we make some new way to mess up people’s lives so that people can make money trying to fix it?

Dang! $230 Million! The only way out of that would be bankruptcy or leaving the country and living off of hidden cash, which I’m guessing a guy like this has stashed away somewhere.
