Heads Up on Adwords

Just a heads up it looks like almighty Adwords changed something.

When you create a new campaign, the default targeting is now United States AND Canada. I think it used to just be US, so now if you’re running a US only offer, make sure to un-check those bloody Canadians. Oh also…

Dear Google,

When I’ve spent 5 minutes writing ads, picking placements, and adding keywords, please don’t ask for my bid, and then when I click continue log me out of Adwords and log me back in. I lose everything I just did. And it happened to me about 5 times in the last hour. Plz fix this <3. kthxbye, uber

It has been doing this for a while now. It is really annoying to blow a bunch of clicks in canada for US only offers. I guess its googles way of getting SOMEONE to buy canadian clicks.

  4. October 23, 2008

yea i noticed that too – strange cause I had to uncheck it and I as like hmmmm

It’s always satisfying as a web developer myself that even the big boys with near unlimited resources get it wrong some times ;)

Still defaults to UK for me…

Writing a campaign in AdWords makes me feel like I’m at TicketMaster.com filling out my contact info for an exclusive concert or something. Rushing through to make sure I don’t lose my work (or tickets).

  12. October 24, 2008

    go leafs go! lol

  13. October 24, 2008

Anyone else having problems getting imps with adwords? What do clicks usually run for myspace? Bidding 1.30 as of right now. Wonder if myspace manually reviews adwords ads or regulates somehow.

  15. October 24, 2008

  17. October 25, 2008

Thanks for the heads up! I will make sure to double check my next submissions. Does this means that it changes all the ones before?

  18. October 25, 2008

That’s happened to me before as well. I can’t stand it when any site logs me out. You’d think sites like Adwords could do better.

  19. October 25, 2008

Are you using the web interface? Why not just use adwords editor – no timeout issues there.

  20. October 27, 2008

“Bloody Canadians”? I take offense to that and will raise you with “ignorant Americans”. :D

I used to get really annoyed typing in great long updates in Adwords to get that darn “your changes were not process, we had a confilct” message.

I switched to Adwords Editor and life had been very happy since! :)

  25. October 29, 2008

Google isn’t the only site to log people off after they’ve completed just about everything… though, it does piss me the hell off!

Oh, and LOL on “Bloody Canadians.” But they get free health care…

Canada is included now, too? That’s interesting. Sorry to hear about the Google bug. That’s so frustrating. Hopefully it gets worked out for you. Good luck!

thanks for ur short answer, i believe we need more information abt adword.

  28. November 1, 2008

The Canada change is interesting. I can see the benefit for Google: people will more often include Canada, which allows for more ads to be displayed and Google will make more money. I wonder if there is a benefit for the advertisers like us. Maybe people who would naturally include the United States would also naturally include Canada, so this saves the advertisers a little time (a few seconds) per campaign.

  29. November 2, 2008

Oh man thanks for the info. Well I just entered adword campagin for my sites and this information really helps me.

  33. November 5, 2008

Thank tpu man I thought tha only I have such problems

  34. November 8, 2008

How can you still be able to launch new campaigns?

I have 25 campaigns oin my adwords account all targeted to different areas. When I want to launch a new campaign I have to create a new set of adgroups in a canmpaign thats already existing because 25 campaigns seems to be the limit…

How do you work around this?

    Erika

I setup an Adwords campaign and pick my keywords. But I DON’T want to pick keywords, I just want to target a website on the content network. How do I do this? Do I just delete my keywords, and also I don’t want to appear on SERPS pages.

  47. August 18, 2009

You can do it with Placement targeting, where you just need to find out the relevant website to your targeted ads and go live with. No need of any keywords because it works more on the basics of Contextual advertising.

  48. October 8, 2009

Are you SURE they arnt already running. If you go into an adgroup and hover your pointer over the magnifying glass it will tell you.

  49. October 8, 2009

Google adwords is an advertisement techniqe where you can register an account to google, and after successfull resgistation they will give a pice of html code to put in your website.
